Selection and Usage Notes
- In heavy-duty cylinders a buffer seal is used together with the primary rod seal to absorb pressure peaks.
- Polyurethane (PU) seals are widely used in hydraulic oil thanks to their wear resistance; choose FKM for high temperatures.
- The rod should be hard-chrome plated and smooth; make sure the seal lip faces the right way when fitting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a rod seal the same as a wiper?
No. The rod seal keeps pressurised oil inside; the wiper keeps dust and dirt out. They are used together.
Which material lasts longest?
In hydraulic oil, polyurethane usually offers the best wear resistance; depending on temperature and fluid we may recommend FKM or PTFE.
